Cat Personality Test

Answer 12 questions about your cat's behaviour and discover which of the 8 cat characters is lying on your sofa.

What’s my cat’s character? Take the cat quiz

Every cat owner knows it: no two cats are the same. One cat greets every visitor at the front door, another vanishes under the bed the moment the doorbell rings. With this free cat personality test you discover in a few minutes which character type best suits your cat. You answer 12 short questions about everyday behaviour — how your cat reacts to visitors, toys, food and cuddles — and get the result straight away.

The test sorts cats into 8 recognisable characters, from the Diva and the Hunter to the Cuddlebug, the Professor and the Chillmaster. Each question awards points to several characters; the character with the highest total score wins. With the result you get not only a fun description but also practical tips: this type’s strengths, a ‘user manual’ for the owner, the best kind of play and how this character usually gets along with other cats in the house.

Why knowing your cat’s character is useful

It’s mostly just fun, of course, but knowing your cat’s character is useful too. A hunter needs daily active play sessions to burn off energy, while a chillmaster benefits above all from calm and predictability. Is your indoor cat bored? Then take a look at the boredom test too for a tailored enrichment plan. And have you just got a nameless kitten at home who clearly turns out to be a diva? The cat name generator can even search by personality.

Tip: answer the questions based on how your cat usually behaves, not on that one odd day. And if you’ve created a cat passport, the result is saved there automatically.

Do cats really have a personality?

Yes. Behavioural researchers describe measurable personality traits in cats, such as extraversion, agreeableness and impulsiveness (sometimes called the ‘Feline Five’). Character is shaped by a mix of genes, socialisation as a kitten and experiences. Our 8 characters are a playful, recognisable translation of that — not a scientific diagnosis, but a surprisingly accurate mirror.

How long does the cat personality test take?

About 2 to 3 minutes. There are 12 multiple-choice questions and you see the result straight away, with no email address or account. You can take the test as often as you like — for example, separately for each cat in the house.

Can my cat’s character change?

The core usually stays the same, but behaviour does change with life stage: a wild junior often becomes a calmer adult cat, and many seniors become more affectionate. Feel free to take the test again each year — large, sudden behavioural changes are, by the way, a reason to call the vet.

Which cat characters are in this test?

The test has 8 types: the Diva, the Explorer, the Cuddlebug, the Hunter, the Professor, the Chillmaster, the Clown and the Shadow. Many cats are a blend — the test shows which character weighs heaviest.
