Do cats really have a personality?
Yes. Behavioural researchers describe measurable personality traits in cats, such as extraversion, agreeableness and impulsiveness (sometimes called the ‘Feline Five’). Character is shaped by a mix of genes, socialisation as a kitten and experiences. Our 8 characters are a playful, recognisable translation of that — not a scientific diagnosis, but a surprisingly accurate mirror.

Can my cat’s character change?
The core usually stays the same, but behaviour does change with life stage: a wild junior often becomes a calmer adult cat, and many seniors become more affectionate. Feel free to take the test again each year — large, sudden behavioural changes are, by the way, a reason to call the vet.
