Everyone can participate and vote for free โ€” one heart per photo per visitor. The editorial team removes entries that don't fit a friendly cat contest.

How does the weekly cat photo contest work?

Every Monday a new theme starts โ€” think sleeping cats, funny faces or the finest whiskers. You upload a photo of your cat, give it a caption and see your entry appear instantly in the nationwide gallery, among the cats of other visitors. Everyone can give hearts to their favourites (one per photo), and the photo with the most hearts wins the week and enters the Hall of Fame. Participating is free and you don't need to create an account.

Have you already created a cat passport? Then we fill in your cat's name automatically and you can use the passport photo with one click. Want a heads-up every week when the new theme goes live, plus the best cat stories in your inbox? Sign up for The Purr Post, our free newsletter.

Tips for a winning cat photo

Great cat photos are all about timing and eye level. Get down on your knees (or flat on the floor) so you photograph at your cat's level, use daylight instead of flash โ€” flash gives scary glowing eyes โ€” and attract attention with a toy or sound just above the lens. Take bursts instead of single shots: the best expression is often among ten almost-good pictures. And most importantly: don't force it. A relaxed cat always makes better photos than a cat being posed.

    Frequently asked questions

Is joining the photo contest really free?

Yes, completely. No costs, no mandatory registration and no catches. The contest is meant as a weekly photo celebration for cat owners โ€” nothing more.

    Where are my photos stored?

Your entry is stored securely with Kattenkamer so all visitors can see it in the gallery and vote on it. We only keep the photo, your cat's name and your caption โ€” no personal data. Want an entry removed? Use the report button or let us know via the about page.

How many times can I vote?

You give a maximum of one heart per photo, and you can vote on as many photos as you like. Click the heart again to take back your vote. Every Monday the count resets with the new theme.

What theme is coming next week?

That stays a surprise until Monday. The themes rotate through a fixed list of fifty-two, so anyone who participates weekly will naturally see all the classics โ€” from โ€œcat in a boxโ€ to โ€œthe deepest sleeperโ€.
