Cat missing: what should you do?

Usually not far. Indoor cats that escape often stay within 50 to 250 metres of home; outdoor cats rarely stray further than a few hundred metres to about a kilometre. Focus your search on the immediate area first before expanding it.

How long can a cat stay away?

A few hours to a few days is not unusual, especially for outdoor cats. Many cats only reappear after five to ten days. Keep searching daily, refresh the food outside and don’t give up — cats are still reunited with their owners even after weeks.

What do you put on a lost-cat poster?
